Matar paneer is a creamy North Indian curry prepared from Matar ( green peas) and Paneer ( Indian cottage cheese). It's a very simple recipe and is a ideal gravy to be served with roti or any other flat breads.
INGREDIENTS
- Matar (green peas) - 250 grams
- Paneer(cottage cheese) - 250 grams
- Butter - 1 tablespoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green chillies - 2 ( slit)
- Ginger -1 " julienned
- Tomato puree - 3 tomatoes
- Onion - 2 ( Finely chopped)
- Salt - to taste
- Turmeric powder-1 Teaspoon
- Red chilly powder - 2 tablespoon
- Coriander powder - 3 tablespoon
- Water - 1 cup
- Kasuri methi - 1 teaspoon
- Fresh cream - 2 tablespoon
METHOD
- Heat butter in a kadai . Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.
- Add the slit green chillies , julienned ginger and saute for 2 minutes.
- Add finely chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes , close the lid and cook till onion turns soft and transparent.
- Add salt to taste .Add freshly pureed tomato and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, chilly powder and coriander powder and combine well. Cook till oil separates.
- Add the green peas and half cup of water and cook for 5 minutes or until green peas is cooked.
- Add the paneer cubes and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add crushed kasuri methi . Finish the dish with fresh cream and serve hot with rice or roti.
